I ain't lyin'

When the Proxy List came back online in May, I added this little warning...
Times have changed, little ones. You cannot hide. By using a proxy you attract the attention of Powerful Forces™. The consequences will never be the same.
Recent events have shown this to be Sage Advice. They may try to convince you they're hiding your ass, but when the chips are down, they'll cover their own ass first.

It's your ass or their's and you will lose every time.

Creepy Convergence

One early Sunday morning back in October, Gastonia (NC) police found a 2009 Hyundai Sante Fe parked in their own parking lot.  Inside were a pair of bodies, the victim and perp of a murder/suicide.

Tragic, but it happens every day.  On average, it happens about twice a day.  There is no avoiding it.  It happens.

This always triggers a number of events.  The police have to investigate.  The bodies have to be removed.  The crime scene has to be cleaned up.  Coroners are woken up.  Autopsies are performed.  And sooner or later the unfortunate actors of their own Final Tragedy are laid to rest.

The twist in the Gastonia murder/suicide was somewhere along the line a mortuary worker lifted a credit card from the victim.

Or, if you believe her creepy MySpace page, the mortuary manager.  (I don't expect this page to be up forever, so I have preserved it at right.  Click for a larger view.)

This particular mortuary advertises many of the services involved in the chain of events that happen after a murder/suicide, including body transport and autopsy, so it's not unusual the Gastonia police contracted with them for this incident.

Now, the mortuary has a public relations nightmare on their hands.

And they're looking for a new manager.

The cops, too, need to take a look at their chain of evidence policies and procedures.  And a second look at their dealings with this company in the past.

Then someone needs to take a long, hard look at ChelleMorticia.  With search warrants.  And maybe a cadaver dog or two.

This is not going to be the last we'll hear about her.

Disturbing Update

It seems our girl has taken her own life.

Still, this is not the end of this story.

10 Days of "Auto AutoAdjust"

And no one has complained yet!

I must say it adds a bit of a challenge. And that challenge is staying less than 10 points ahead! That, and finding a good place to hide when it's time to KICK OUT THE JAMBS!

IN OTHER NEWS, it seems like the stars and planets have aligned for some sort of cosmic spotlight on the old Dinkster. Normally, for me at least, when I get that feeling it's reminiscent of the archetypal wide-eyed convict with hands spread and back against the prison wall.

Generally speaking, not a good feeling.

This time around I think things are going to be different. There are some endings and beginnings on the horizon and all of them are good. Not only is there a light over at the Frankenstein Place there's one at the end of the tunnel as well. Last week brought a Triple Whammy of Good Things, all centered around the same subject, a subject on which I just happen to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME, for you non-PMPs).

And although I don't want to get specific just yet, suffice to say this may finally be my ticket out of the Salt Mines.

HINKY LINKS

Since I've been doing this crap at work for a few weeks now, I decided to aggregate my Google Alerts into a service for IT Security Pros and ethusiasts. The result: HINKY LINKS at blogspot.com!

Hopefully this means I won't bore you to death with this security crap anymore.

Any more than I have to. lol

Anyway, it's not as brutal on the eyes as this black background theme (most security wonks use the same theme on BlogSpot - a very curious phenom) and since it's primarily cut-and-paste the upkeep should be simple (famous last words).

But I am good at this, and even though it's not quite as fresh as it could be at the moment, I get content coming into my gmail account constantly. If you were a coworker, Hinky Links is exactly what you'd see at my work blog.
